The FSA is committed to engineering ethics

By signing the Ethical Declaration for Contemporary Engineering, the Faculty of Applied Sciences further reaffirms its commitment to training responsible engineers.

At its meeting on March 3, 2026, the Faculty Council of Applied Sciences decided to endorse the Ethical Declaration for Contemporary Engineering promoted by the Academy of Technologies (France). This text, published on the occasion of the Year of Engineering, incorporates the Engineer’s Charter (IESF), the engineering charters “for climate and biodiversity” and “for gender diversity " (Syntec Ingénierie) published in France, as well as the IEEE Code of Ethics and the Code of Ethics of the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI - Germany).

This declaration is structured around eight recommendations that call on engineers to examine the values, principles, requirements, and needs associated with their projects and address their social, environmental, and professional responsibilities.

Engineers in Solidarity

This approach is already reflected in a series of course units included in the various FSA programs. It is particularly in line with the upcoming launch of a "solidarity engineering" course, which will be offered to undergraduate students starting in the 2026 academic year. This course is organized with the support of Engineers Without Borders - Belgium. It is based on a series of seminars dedicated to engineering ethics, balance between economic objectives and environmental and societal challenges, low-tech and frugal technologies, international solidarity, and the application of engineering to support sustainable and equitable development.
