Engineers for Social Good: Giving Meaning to one’s Skills
Engineering, solidarity, sustainability, ethics: aligning your career with your values
The School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Liège is launching a new course in partnership with Engineers Without Borders Belgium starting in the 2026–2027 academic year: Solidarity Engineer.
A course for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the connection between technical excellence, human responsibility, and environmental responsibility. Without denying the economic value of engineering, but with the desire to go beyond that and put one’s skills to work to make a positive impact on society and the planet.
On the agenda:
→ A launch conference focused on solidarity and ethics in engineering
→ Four seminars on engineering ethics, professional dilemmas, Low Techs (frugal technologies), and the engineer’s role in national and international solidarity
→ Concrete group projects with environmental and/or societal goals, led by professors, NGOs, and grassroots organizations in Belgium or internationally
→ A critical and systemic reflection on the role, impacts, and limitations of technology in society.
Tomorrow’s engineers have, more than ever, the opportunity and the capacity to make a truly positive impact. This course is designed to help them deepen and structure this reflection.

📩 Selection based on application. The list of proposed projects will be published in June 2026; students will be invited to form groups of 2 or 3 people and submit their applications.
