Biography
Since 2025, Anthony Cioppa has been a lecturer in computer vision and data analysis at the University of Liège (ULiège). His research focuses on holistic video understanding through artificial intelligence, with a particular emphasis on sports applications. He is notably the initiator of the SoccerNet Challenges, which have become a benchmark in the field. He has undertaken several international research stays, including at KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) in Saudi Arabia (2022-2023), under the supervision of Prof. Bernard Ghanem, and at Aalborg University in Denmark (2019), in collaboration with Prof. Thomas B. Moeslund He earned his PhD from ULiège in December 2020, with a dissertation on real-time video semantics, funded by a FRIA fellowship (F.R.S.-FNRS). His core expertise spans semantic segmentation, action recognition, and the automatic analysis of sports videos. In addition to his research, he is committed to education, having supervised numerous practical courses and student projects across various levels.
