Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the study of computational systems that demonstrate capabilities of perception, reasoning, learning, and action that are typical of natural intelligence.

T
ogether with unprecedented volumes of data, recent breakthroughs in modern artificial intelligence have elevated machines to super-human level performance across many fields of engineering, including computer vision, speech recognition, or machine translation. Most notably, the emergence of deep learning is now triggering a fundamental shift of paradigm in many scientific disciplines, going from traditional domain-motivated approaches to flexible models such as deep neural networks learned directly from data.
The Montefiore AI research group has been active in AI and machine learning (ML) for more than 30 years. The goals of our research range from the development of formal methods for automated reasoning and control, machine learning and statistical inference, to the pioneering application of AI and ML to computational biology, physical sciences, electric power and energy systems, computer vision, and robotics.
